Welcome to Language Arts Class!
In Language Arts we will be reading and writing. This includes word study. We have many interesting books to read and I think you will enjoy the books the sixth grade teachers have selected! Please report to class with a positive attitude and motivation for success. Always have your assignment pad, pencil, independent reading book, current group novel (usually kept in school), your binder, and notebook (usually kept in school). Thanks!
Each marking period you will be reading a novel with your reading group based on a particular theme. Additionally, I will be reading aloud to you a novel within the same theme. The themes for our reading classes are: Family Life, The Holocaust, Dystopian Society, and Survival. We will be meeting as a whole class and in small groups to dive into these units.

You will be expected to read novels of your own choice independently as well. You need to fill out an “Orbit Slip” when you finish the novel. See the guidelines for number of books you need to read each marking period. This book should be with you at all times so you can read when you have some time to do so in school and at home.
*Orbit Slip - Fiction
*Orbit Slip - Nonfiction
*Orbit Guidelines and Due Dates
Writing - We will be using Writer’s Notebook to develop our writing skills, specifically in the areas of narrative, informational, and argumentative writing. We will be using the computer lab often to do much of our writing. Typing practice is recommended.
